If you look real close, there is a place in the Bible that is the most pivotal moment in the history of humankind. 

Or perhaps I should say, there is a space.

In Genesis 3, God has created the heavens and earth and placed Adam and Eve in a garden to take care of it, enjoy each other, and daily communion with Him. He has only one requirement—that they do not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They could have done anything they wanted in that garden and eaten from any tree anytime, anywhere. But the very one God prohibited was just too alluring. And so, they plucked the fruit, put it to their mouths, and bit into a new life—one that was apart from God. The loving, intimate relationship with God they could have had—the one God created them for—was gone in an instant. God’s friends had rejected Him.

And so it is that at the end of verse 6 there is a space (see below)—the space between the period at the end of 6 and the beginning of verse 7 that everything about our existence rests. I invite you to take a look at it. That is what I did. I took my Bible, brought it to my face and just stared at the tiny gap on the paper, realizing that that is where God could have hit the reset button. He could have taken His mighty hand and dropped it like a hammer on Adam, Eve, the earth, and the whole holy thing.The first human beings could have been the last. But God’s love is just too strong. By verse 8, He is on the earth walking in the garden looking for them. “Where are you?” He lovingly calls out in verse 9 to the hiding couple who are too embarrassed to be seen.

And so history begins.

The entirety of the Scriptures that follow is the story of God’s plan to get us back in right standing and communion with Him. Jesus is that plan. And He is about to come into full view on the pages that follow—Genesis to Revelation. If you don’t know it, you should. It will change everything in your life.
