Elfin Forest Recreation Reserve Hike

Join the Rock Church Hiking Ministry family as we travel to the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve in Escondido for the first time since 2019. It's always a fun time of fellowship while enjoying the beauty of God's creation!

The hike is 6.6-miles and is considered difficult. The parking lot fills up quick, resulting in having to park on the side of the road. We will meet at 7:45 a.m. so allow extra time to make it to the trailhead. We will meet in front of the trailhead sign by the port-a-potties. Hope to see you all there!

The rocky, hilly trail is lined with coastal sage shrub and offers moderate switchbacks. Be prepared for little-to-no shade as the trail is exposed and can be very hot in warm weather. Spectacular views of both Olivenhain Reservoir and Lake Hodges highlight the hike. Preview the hike here.

This hike is difficult! Please self-evaluate your hiking level before attempting this hike. You are welcome to go at your own pace, it will be your responsibility to complete the journey if you fall behind the group.

•  Elevation Gain: 1,400 feet
•  Hiking Time: approximately 3 hours
•  Dogs on leash permitted
•  Weather: Hike will be cancelled for extreme weather.
• Restrooms: At the trailhead, porta-potties are on the trail

• Good running or hiking shoes

• Hat or visor
• Hiking Poles (optional)
• Gloves (optional)
• Water (at least 2 liters recommended)
• Snacks
• Sunscreen/Sunglasses
