Mt. Soledad Hike

The Rock Church Hiking Ministry's second February adventure takes us to the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial. Our meeting spot is located at 1401 Virginia Way, La Jolla, CA 92037, the corner with Exchange Place. Street parking is available on Virginia Way. This will be a street hike on paved roads. There will be spectacular ocean views as we head to and from Mt. Soledad. Weather permitting, we could see a sunset, scheduled for 5:40 p.m., on the way back.  

This is a difficult hike, with a distance of 5.6 miles with an elevation gain of 823.5 feet. You are welcome to go at your own pace, it will be your responsibility to complete the journey if you fall behind the group. Please self-evaluate your hiking and fitness levels before attempting this journey.

You must sign the Rock Church waiver form to participate in this hike. Forms will be available at the event.

Meet at the trailhead at 3 p.m.
Hike starts at 3:15 p.m.

What to Expect 

•  Difficulty: Difficult 
•  Highlight: Beautiful ocean views and 360-degree views at Mt. Soledad
•  Distance: 5.6 miles (out and back)
•  Elevation Gain: 823.5 feet
•  Hiking Time: approximately 3 hours
•  Dogs: Permitted (on leash) 
•  Weather: Hike may be cancelled if it rains.
•  Restrooms: No restrooms at the meeting location, restrooms are at Mt. Soledad. There may be a random porta potty on the way by a construction site, but don't count on it.

 What to bring? 

• Good running or hiking shoes
• Comfortable clothing, bring layers as the temperature will change
• Hat or visor
• Sunscreen
• Hiking Poles (optional)
• Water (at least 1.5 liters recommended)
• Snacks and electrolytes
