Join the Hiking Ministry family from the Rock Church for a Summer Sunset Hike at Iron Mountain! We'll hike to the peak in the late afternoon, stop to worship, eat and re-hydrate at the top and enjoy the 360-degree view. A beautiful sunset at 7:45 p.m. (hopefully) will highlight our trip back down the mountain.

This hike is difficult. There is a challenging uphill climb for the first 1.5 miles before it levels off for about a mile. At this point, the remainder of the hike will be uphill via switchbacks. The average time from trailhead to the top is over one hour. Please self-evaluate your fitness and hiking levels before attempting this hike. Kids and dogs are not recommended for this hike. Dogs (on leash) are permitted.

What to Expect 

•  Difficulty Level: Difficult
•  Highlight: An awesome sunset, if clear
•  Distance: 5.8 miles (round trip)
•  Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,530 feet
•  Hiking Time: approximately 3 hours
•  Dogs (on leash) permitted, not recommended.
•  Hike not recommended for children
•  Weather: Hike may be cancelled if it's too hot.

 What to bring?

• Good running or hiking shoes
• Comfortable clothing, bring layers as it will get cool
• Hat or visor
• Hiking Poles (optional)
• Water (at least 1.5 liters recommended)
• Snacks 
• Headlamp or flashlight as it will get dark

Directions

From Interstate 8: Exit 17-C to SR-67 and head north. At Poway Road, turn right to enter the Iron Mountain Trailhead parking lot.

From Interstate 15: Exit 17 to Scripps Poway Pkwy. and head east. At SR-67, turn left. At the next traffic signal, turn right to enter the Iron Mountain Trailhead parking lot.
