South Clevenger Canyon Hike

The Rock Church Hiking Ministry's first hike of 2025 takes us to North County and the South Clevenger Canyon Trail. We'll meet at 7:45 a.m. and the adventure begins promptly at 8 a.m. Please arrive on time. Hope to see you there!

The trailhead is located 5.3 miles east of the San Diego Safari Park on SR-78. There is a parking lot at the trailhead. There are no restroom facilities or water at the trailhead.

This is a difficult hike, 4.5 miles with an elevation gain of 1,167 feet. Please self-evaluate your hiking and fitness levels before attempting this journey.

You are welcome to hike at your own pace. However, if you fall behind the group. it will be your responsibility to complete the hike.

If there is interest, we can go out to eat afterwards.

  •  Difficulty: Difficult with 1,167-foot elevation gain

  • Travel time from San Diego: 45-50 minutes
 What to bring?
  • Good running or hiking shoes
  • Comfortable clothing, bring layers as the temperature will change
  • Hat or visor
  • Sunscreen
  • Hiking Poles (optional)
  • Water (at least 1.5 liters recommended)
  • Snacks  and electrolytes
